phone probs

A long time ago we decided that we would put a little hedge between ourselves and our neighbours front gardens!
Over the weekend we bought 20 little box hedgings - himself decided that today was the day to strip the grass from the area prior to digging and adding some good earth . Fine so far! It was hot out there 25c and he got too hot so came in for lunch after marking up the site.

I had phoned my daughter in the morning to find out how my eldest grandson was - he had hurt his ankle last weekend and it was not getting better - so Jackie insisted in taking him to the local hospital for an ex-ray. I phoned and got no answer - phoned her daughter, she didn't answer either and later she phoned me back to say that she hadn't heard anything. So after lunch I tried again...................no signal at all what has happened ? ...........bet you can guess! 007 has cut through the phone cable! dear NTL will come and fix it on Monday! I said nothing to him -- what is the point!

As for grandson Terry - he has three (yes three) fractures on his ankle - one old one and two new ones - they don't know he was managing to walk! Now he is in plaster up to his knee. Honestly MEN !!

This and That!

I thought you might like to see what I have growing in my greenhouse! this poppy seeded it's self and I didn't have the heart to pull it out! it is now 4 foot tall and has loads of flower buds.
The garden has been looking splendid too, my weigelia has been alove with bees and the sun has brought out all the flowers on the peony. I just hope todays rain doesn't make them all fall over.

We had a fun afternoon with these two terrors on Saturday - Daddy had thrown a rope over an old apple tree branch and attached a swing seat to the bottom - he then had the task of pulling them one at a time to the top of the tree and down again - Emily want to be dropped 'faster'...we were afraid her tummy wouldn't cope with it! but it seemed to! Big dipper at Alton towers next?

Granddad didn't get involved in all the pulling up the tree - even though the terrors wanted him to. This area of the garden is where the bonfire is and this lot of wood is waiting for the Boy Scouts to come and collect it for their campfire. The tree has had a lot of wood removed because it is rotting and a woodpecker is making loads of holes in the other side of the tree.....but the tree still produces more apples than the family can eat! We have no idea how old it is, but the house is a 1930's house so the chances are the tree is that old too.

We took the caravan to Upton on Severn in the middle of this month, so that I could go to the quilt show in Malvern. It was a good show this year - lots of lovely quilts and plenty of suppliers.
I met a couple of friends and we checked purchases etc. I did find that there was a lack of seating in the main hall this year - and I found I got very tired. Where they have had a row of seat in previous years they had more suppliers......

I have been making plans with my cousin Dorothy to go to Sandown in June, we will go on the Friday then I have the weekend to see the family. We are taking another couple of friends with us so we should have a fun time.

May already?

I had a lovely suprise the other day - a fairly substantial 'squishy' was delivered by the postman! it came from one of the girls that I have been encouraging to do P&Q - she has now made 4 fair sized quilts and has a baby one on the go.......but she is leaving me and moving to Selsey. She has sent me a pack of 9 fat quarters as a thank you. they are from the Tabby Cat and are a bundle called 'Heart of the Garden - Ruby wine '. The colours are very different to those I usually use and she has challenged me to make something with them......they are beautiful colours but I am struggling with choosing a quilt pattern!

The garden is looking lovely in the sunshine today - shrubs are coming into bloom or are already blooming like this Camelia, next doors Lilac is loaded with flowers this year, is it because of the hard winter we had? I wonder? all the shrubs look as though they are going to give us a good show this year.
I have been working in the garden today - planting out petunias from the greenhouse into big pots in the garden (I don't put them into the ground as we have too many slugs and I would lose the plants), also planting white Geraniums also into pots in a shady part of the garden - I thought the white ones would give some light to that area. We will see how they look later.

We are off with the caravan on Tuesday, we are off to a site just outside Upton on Severn - why are we going there? - silly question! there is a super quilt show on at the showground in Malvern ! I think this is one of the nicest shows of the year. It is in such a beautiful place at the foot of the Malvern hills, with fields all around and even when it is raining (as it is sometimes when I go) it is a magical place. I shall go to the show on the Thursday and again on the Saturday - unless I hear that friends are coming on other days .......We are not going home till the next Monday so I will have some time to explore the countryside with 007 too.

While we are away my Great Grandson James is having his tonsils out - they have been causing him trouble almost from the moment he was born - and now he is nearly 4 they are going to go! I think he has been on anti-biotics for most of this winter to combat the constant infections! poor little boy. I will have to find him something nice as a gift for when he comes out of hospital.
